When I was in seventh grade I went to a halloween dance with a Misfits skull painted on my face and might have chugged a lot of Robitussin for a buzz.  I don’t recommend it to anyone else, but I was young and thought it was punk.  I remember two things at the end of the night… I threw up and I found a tape on the floor of a band called Bad Religion.  It was their new album, No Control, and it started my love of that band.  Thirteen years later I became friends with Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz when my band signed to Epitaph Records… The exact same label that released the tape I found in seventh grade.

Desaparecidos and Rilo Kiley, with Motion City Soundtrack opening makes sense for a short tour, right?  Well… in 2002 it did, and it was pretty amazing to watch those bands play intimate venues every night.  The Rilo Kiley album “More Adventurous” wasn’t out at that time, but when it came out in 2004 I immediately fell in love with this song.

It must have been around 2004 when I first heard Say Anything.  MCS was recording Commit This To Memory and we had the band van out in LA.  Someone left the Say Anything cd in the stereo and I was amazed by what I heard when I started driving.  I rarely get surprised by a band, but they did it with that album.  It has been an absolute pleasure to play with them on this tour.  They are rad dudes and are making interesting and fresh music that is so rare these days.

I saw That Dog in 1995 with Jawbreaker and Fluf.  I went for Jawbreaker, but left a That Dog fan too.  I picked up their self titled album on vinyl and it had a different cover and a seven inch with it.  It might have been the original release before DGC.  I’m not sure, but the two songs on that seven inch have remained some of my favourite That Dog songs.  Those songs are a bit more moody than their recognizable pop songs.
